St Peter's and St Paul's Scaldwell
The church of St Peter and St Paul has been here for many centuries. This Grade 2* listed building has been at the heart of the village through the Normans, the Black Death, the Wars of the Roses, the Civil War, the Industrial Revolution and the 2 world wars.
All through that time and to the present time, faithful men and women have quietly continued to worship the ancient Christian faith. Until this year, the church had been open continuously since 1213.
The church is open each day for visitors, prayer and private meditation. St Peter and St Paul's Church at Scaldwell is part of a benefice with the churches of St Peter and St Paul in Hannington, St Andrew in Old and St Peter in Walgrave. Our rector is the Rev David Bent who lives at the Rectory in Walgrave. Although the village of Scaldwell is small, the Christian family at St Peter and St Paul is enthusiastic and welcoming to all who visit.
Worship at Scaldwell and the other churches within the benefice is assisted by a licensed and certified team of lay readers, lay pastoral ministers, lay worship leaders and Eucharistic Assistants. There are two Bible Study groups that meet on Tuesday morning and evening in the village and Alpha courses are run. Church members of St Peter and St Paul run a Men's Breakfast Club in Scaldwell Village Hall approximately every six weeks at 9.00am on a Saturday morning. All men are welcome from within the benefice and other local villages whether church members or not.
